In recent years Belgrade returned to the important place of cultural events in this region. Belgrade today has several museums, many galleries and theatres, and numerous weekly cultural events. Belgrade is the host of many famous festivals, some of which are among the oldest in Europe- Bitef, Bemus, Fest, October Salon.

Belgrade also preserves one of the most comprehensive international film collections in the world- Yugoslav Film Archive.
